Program Logistics

Parents, to help you plan for your child’s participation in the GAPS program, we have provided some general logistical information below. Please do not hesitate to contact Betsey McFarland (bmcfarland@wade.org) or Eric Money (esmoney@ncsu.edu) with any questions. All participating parents and students who have filled out an application will receive additional information prior to the start of the program.

Timing and Location

8-week GAPS: The 8-week GAPS program takes place over eight consecutive Saturday mornings (except holidays/breaks) from 9:00 am to noon. Activities take place mostly at the Wade Edwards Learning Lab (WELL, 714 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC) and occasionally at the NC State Geovisualization Lab (2800 Faucette Drive, Raleigh, NC).

Summer GAPS: Summer GAPS takes place over 4 consecutive days, Monday-Thursday mornings, beginning at 9:00 am to Noon, with local field trips each day. Each day begins and ends at the Wade Edwards Learning Lab (WELL, 714 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC).

Transportation & Parking

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from GAPS activities. If you are driving your child, please be mindful of the following times:

  • Drop off: 8:50 am – 9:00 am
  • Pick up: 11:45 am – noon

Parking: Parking is available behind the WELL building at 714 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh.

Communication

Parents will always be included in any communications between the program and participants. Most communications will be via email, so please make sure you and your student check the email we have on file often. Generally we will send out a weekly summary/reminder email by Wednesday before the next GAPS session.
